It’s been three years since Paramore dropped their last album, but Hayley Williams is finally ready to step back into the spotlight – and she’s doing it on her own. Her first solo album is on the way, and she teased the highly-anticipated project with a new single, “Simmer.”

This deeply personal song will be featured on her album Petals for Armor, scheduled to be released on May 8th. Williams wrote this album alongside some of the people who are really close to her, and she believes their respective talents shine bright throughout this record.

“I like to think we all make each other better and the result is something that sounds and feels exactly as I’d hoped it would. Now that it’s time to put it all out there, I can finally exhale. I’m excited to let people in to experience a different side of myself that I’ve only very recently become familiar with,” Williams said in a statement.

The Paramore singer also described the process of writing this record as a scary, empowering experience and said it led to some of her proudest moments as a lyricist. The music video for “Simmer” perfectly encapsulates her scary journey of self-discovery and shows Williams being chased by an unknown figure, only to discover it was herself all along.
