The first season of House of the Dragon did a great job welcoming us back to Westeros—and that was just the beginning! The second season of this fantasy epic will premiere on HBO next year, and it teases the upcoming war between two clans of the Targaryen family.

The first season of this series ended with the death of King Viserys, which set the stage for the divide between two fractions of his family. His firstborn son King Aegon II was proclaimed king with the help of his mother, Queen Alicent Hightower, but quickly faces opposition.

He won’t be able to take the Iron Throne idly because Viserys’ firstborn daughter and heir apparent, Rhaenyra Targaryen, intends to challenge his claim to the throne. This turn of events eventually results in a devastating war of succession known as the Dance of the Dragons, which marked the beginning of the end of House Targaryen.

In addition to dropping a brand-new teaser, HBO also revealed that Season 2 will include several new cast members: Clinton Liberty as Addam of Hull, Jamie Kenna as Ser Alfred Broome, Kieran Bew as Hugh, Tom Bennett as Ulf, Tom Taylor as Lord Cregan Stark, and Vincent Regan as Ser Rickard Thorne.

House of the Dragon also stars Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, and Rhys Ifans, and it will return to HBO in mid-2024.
