Suffice it to say, many people were unhappy with the final season of Game of Thrones.

As war waged in Westeros, fans waged war on HBO and the show’s producers, with over 1.6 million people calling for the eighth season to be remade as they felt it did not fit with the rest of the series.

Two months after the final episode, in which we finally saw who sat on the Iron Throne, HBO has responded to the fans’ petition.

“There are very few downsides to having a hugely popular show. One I can think of, when you try to end it, many people have opinions on how to end it. I think that comes with the territory,” HBO programming president, Casey Bloys, told Entertainment Weekly at the Television Critics Association’s press tour. “The petition shows a lot of enthusiasm and passion for the show, but it wasn’t something we seriously considered. I can’t imagine another network would.”

Despite the backlash from fans, Game of Thrones still received a record-breaking 32 nominations at the 2019 Primetime Emmy Awards.
