If you’re a huge fan of It movies and wish you could learn more about Stephen King’s scary universe, HBO Max’s got you covered. The streaming giant is developing a prequel series taking place in the same universe under the working title Welcome to Derry.

This series will spend the story established by Andy Muschietti in the feature films It and It Chapter Two, and it will draw inspiration from King’s novels. The beloved author gave it his seal of approval, saying he’s excited that the story of Derry, Maine’s most haunted city, is continuing.

Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti are coming back on board after working together on the two It movies and they’re excited to explore the multitudes of this story that didn’t make it to the big screen.

“As teenagers, we took turns reading chapters of Stephen King’s IT until the thick paperback fell to pieces. We can’t wait to share the depths of Steve’s novel, in all its heart, humor, humanity, and horror,” said the duo in a joint statement.

Jason Fuchs is developing the prequel series alongside the Muschiettis, and he will write the teleplay for the first episode, in addition to executive producing the series. Other details are still being kept under wraps, and the return of Bill SkarsgÄrd as Pennywise is yet to be confirmed.
