The third season of Pennyworth moved from Epix to HBO Max, but the show’s time on this platform was short-lived. HBO Max is pulling the plug on this series that tells the origin story of Batman’s butler Alfred Pennyworth, following the cancelation of several more DC shows.

The show’s cancelation was announced in an official statement by an HBO Max spokesperson, who thanked the creative team behind this series for their brilliant, unique, gripping depiction of the origin of one of the most iconic characters in the Batman world.

“An incredible blend of action, drama, and humor, for three seasons, Pennyworth: The Origin of Batman’s Butler has taken fans on a mind-bending ride into Alfred’s eccentric world and the beginnings of cutting-edge super heroes and super villains,” reads the statement.

Pennyworth premiered on Epix in 2019, as a spin-off of Gotham, and centered on the younger version of the character played by Sean Pertwee. Jack Bannon took the lead role this time around, with Ben Aldridge, Hainsley Lloyd Bennett, Ryan Fletcher, Dorothy Atkinson, Ian Puleston-Davies, Paloma Faith, and Jason Flemyng in supporting roles.

Pennyworth moved to HBO Max for its third season and suffered the same faith as several recently canceled DC shows, including Titans and Doom Patrol.
