The Rehearsal created quite a splash since premiering on HBO Max earlier this summer and we still haven’t seen the last of it. The streaming giant renewed Nathan Fielder’s experimental docu-series for its second season ahead of the Season 1 premiere.

The Rehearsal shows Fielder giving ordinary people a chance to prepare for uncomfortable conversations and life events by building elaborate sets and hiring trained actors to help them rehearse for their big moment with the help of these carefully crafted simulations.

Amy Gravitt, EVP of HBO Programming confirmed the show’s renewal in an official statement, saying, “Nathan has sparked such a lively conversation with The Rehearsal. We have no idea where season two will take us, and that is the delight of this boundary-pushing show from a truly singular talent.”

The Rehearsal premiered on HBO Max on July 15, with one episode airing every week. The first season featured a total of six episodes, focusing on different scenarios, from a trivia-obsessed man telling his team he doesn’t have a master’s degree to a Christian woman considering motherhood.

Fielder came up with the idea for this series while starring on Nathan for You, and started developing it in 2019, as a part of his deal with HBO. The Rehearsal was met with rave reviews and it currently holds a 92% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
