After a lot of anticipation, True Detective is coming back for its fourth season, and we finally got the first taste of things to come. The footage from True Detective: North Country, starring Jodie Foster and Kali Reis, has been featured in HBO’s sizzle reel of upcoming 2023 shows.

HBO shared a sneak peek at the show only about a month after it started filming in Iceland in early November. The two leads can be seen playing detectives trying to solve the case in the middle of desolate winter landscapes, and here’s what the official synopsis has to say about it:

“When the long winter night falls in Ennis, Alaska, the eight men who operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanish without a trace. To solve the case, detectives Liz Danvers (Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Reis) must confront their pasts and the dark truths lying underneath the Arctic ice.”

In addition to Foster and Reis, the new season of True Detective will also star John Hawkes, Christopher Eccleston, Fiona Shaw, Finn Bennett, and Anna Lambe. Issa López serves as showrunner, taking the reins from the show’s creator Nic Pizzolatto. She’ll direct and write all episodes, in addition to producing the series along with Moonlight’s Barry Jenkins.
