HBO Shares First Look at TV Adaptation of Video Game “The Last of Us”

The Last of Us is the latest video game to get a TV adaptation, and it looks pretty promising so far. HBO recently shared the first look at this highly-anticipated series, showing Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey take on the lead roles as fierce survivors Joel and Ellie.

According to its official logline, the story of The Last of Us takes place 20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed and centers on Joel, a hardened survivor, who is hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. The first look at the characters shows them from the back, rocking their rugged clothes and backpacks, as they gaze at destroyed plane remains on a grassy hill ahead of them.

This post-apocalyptic show was developed for HBO by the game’s creator Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin, who previously worked on Chernobyl. In addition to Pascal and Ramsey, it will also star Gabriel Luna, Merle Dandridge, Jeffrey Pierce, and Anna Torv.

The Last of Us is based on Naughty Dog’s critically acclaimed video game of the same name. Production kicked off in Canada back in July, and it’s been hailed as the largest television production in Canadian history. The first season is expected to air in 2022, but it still doesn’t have a release date.
