Academy Award-winning actress Helen Mirren is set to make her return to television, but not in a way you would expect. Mirren joined the unscripted wildlife comedy When Nature Calls, taking on the narrator role in the series.

ABC made a decision to change the series title to When Nature Calls with Helen Mirren. According to the network, the series offers a funny look at animals and will feature comedians “putting words into the mouths of beautiful beasts, teeny-tiny frogs, beatboxing badgers and more in captivating footage from all over the world.”

When Nature Calls with Helen Mirren is based on Walk on the Wild Side, which aired on BBC for two seasons between 2009 and 2010. The series featured a similar format and featured different celebrity guests doing a voiceover in each episode.

ABC recently shared a teaser trailer for When Nature Calls with Helen Mirren and announced that the series is set to premiere on June 24th.

“I am excited by the opportunity to reveal the ‘true inner lives’ of the noble creatures with whom we share the planet,” said Mirren in a statement.

2021 is shaping up to be a very busy year for Helen Mirren. She is currently working on the American war drama White Bird: A Wonder Story and DC Universe’s Shazam! Fury of the Gods while having several more projects lined up for the future.
