“Hellraiser” Series in Development at HBO

Doug Bradley in "Hellraiser" (1987)

The Hellraiser franchise is heading to HBO as a new series.

Multiple outlets confirm that the premium cabler is developing a new series based on the iconic horror film franchise, which in itself was based on Clive Barker’s novella The Hellbound Heart.

According to sources close to the production, the series will not be a reboot of Hellraiser, but rather “an elevated continuation and expansion” of its mythology.

The series will be penned by Mark Verheiden and Michael Dougherty, while David Gordon Green is attached to direct several episodes. Verheiden and Dougherty will also executive produce.

The Hellraiser franchise spans 10 films released over thirty-five years. The first film was released in 1987.
