How I Met Your Father, a sequel to How I Met Your Mother, starring Hilary Duff, has been given a straight-to-series order at Hulu.

The show will feature Sophie (Duff) telling her son about how she met his father in a story that starts in 2021 where Sophie and her friends are trying to discover who they are, what they want in life, and how to find love in the age of dating apps and tons of options.

The series comes from This Is Us co-showrunners and Love, Victor co-creators Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger. How I Met Your Mother creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas will be executive producing. In addition to starring in the series, Duff will produce with Adam Londy serving as co-executive producer.

“I’ve been incredibly lucky in my career to play some wonderful characters and I’m looking forward to taking on the role of Sophie. As a huge fan of ‘How I Met Your Mother,’ I’m honored and even a little nervous that Carter and Craig would trust me with the sequel of their baby. Isaac and Elizabeth are brilliant, and I can’t wait to work alongside them and all of their genius. Just fangirling over here getting to join the Hulu Originals and 20th families. I realize these are big shoes to fill and I’m excited to slip my 6 ½’s in there!,” Duff said in a statement per Variety.

How I Met Your Mother was on CBS for nine seasons from 2005-2014 with over 200 episodes. Josh Radnor, Cobie Smulders, Neil Patrick Harris, Jason Segel, Alyson Hannigan, and Bob Saget starred in the series.
