“His Dark Materials” Renewed For Third and Final Season

HBO and BBC gave Philip Pullman’s book series His Dark Materials the adaptation it deserves, but all good things must come to an end. After two seasons, this show has been renewed for its third season, but this will also be the final chapter of Lyra’s incredible journey.

Francesca Orsi, executive vice president of HBO Programming, said it’s been a tremendous privilege to bring Phillip Pullman’s epic, intricate, and culturally resonant story to the big screen. “We thank our incredible partners at the BBC and the entire Bad Wolf team, led by the indefatigable Jane Tranter, for their exceptional work on the first two seasons.  We look forward to completing the trilogy with this final chapter in Lyra’s journey,” Orsi said in a statement.

This announcement isn’t much of a surprise for die-hard fans of His Dark Materials because the original book series also consisted of three parts. The third season will be eight episodes-long, set to start shooting in Cardiff, Wales next year, with Dafne Keen, Kit Connor, and Ruth Wilson expected to return to their respective roles.
