Jason Statham, Dwayne Johnson, and Vanessa Kirby in "Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw"

The latest outing of the Fast & Furious franchise – Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw was predicted to be a big hit and it looks like the muscly, guns wielding, one-liners spewing men are meeting these predictions.

The movie made a strong opening with an international box office revenue of 180.8 million dollars – 120 of those outside of North America.

Although it is considered a spinoff movie and is not predicted to do as well as a regular movie in the franchise, Hobbs & Shaw’s opening is considered the 3rd best in the franchise’s history – it surpassed the 6th movie and trailed after the last 2 episodes. It is also considered the 5th biggest ever global debut for Universal after the last 2 fast & Furious movies, Jurassic World, and 50 Shades of Grey.

The movie also enjoys somewhat positive reviews. The moviegoers gave it A- rating at the exit polls and it holds a 67% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

This week also saw The Lion king come in second place in the box office in its 3rd weekend with 38.2 million dollars in domestic sales. Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood came in 3rd with 20 million dollars on his 2nd weekend.
