Alan Arkin, whose career in Hollywood spanned seven decades and included over a hundred credits, passed away at 89. The Oscar-winning star of Little Miss Sunshine and Argo leaves an impressive legacy behind them, and many of his former co-stars sent condolences to his loved ones.

Arkin passed away at the age of 89 at his home in San Marcos, California on June 29, and his family confirmed his death in an official statement:

“Our father was a uniquely talented force of nature, both as an artist and a man. A loving husband, father, grand and great grandfather, he was adored and will be deeply missed.”

Arkin’s rise to prominence started during the 60s when he received his first Oscar nod for the role The Russians Are Coming, the Russians Are Coming. He went on to star in The Heart is a Lonely Hunter and Catch-22, and experienced somewhat of a career renascence after winning an Oscar for Little Miss Sunshine. In recent years, he received acclaim for his Oscar-nominated turn in Argo and Emmy-nominated role in The Kominsky Method.

Condolences for Arkin’s family poured in from some of Hollywood’s biggest names, including many of his past co-stars. The Kominksy Method’s Michael Douglas described him as “a wonderful actor whose intelligence, sense of comedy, and consummate professionalism over the past 70 years has left an indelible mark on our industry.”
