Swedish actor Max von Sydow, who made a name for himself with unforgettable roles in The Exorcist and The Seventh Seal, has passed away at age 90 at his home in France.
The tragic news was announced by the actor’s widow in an official statement, that was sent to major media outlets through Von Sydow’ international reps.
“It is with a broken heart and with infinite sadness that we have the extreme pain of announcing the departure of Max von Sydow, on March 8, 2020,” Catherine von Sydow stated.
Max von Sydow starred in more than 100 films and TV shows over the course of his seven-decade long career, spanning both arthouse films and Hollywood blockbusters. He’s best known for his collaboration with Swedish director Ingmar Bergman, most notably his role in The Seventh Seal.
Mainstream audiences know Von Sydow from such projects as The Exorcist, Flash Gordon, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Game of Thrones. He was also a recipient of many prestigious awards, and received two Oscar nods for his performances in Pelle the Conqueror and Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close.
