Doris Day was the ultimate girl-next-door, and one of the biggest icons of Hollywood’s Golden Age. Some of the biggest movie and music stars are mourning her loss after it was announced she passed away at age 97.

The Doris Day Animal Foundation shared the tragic news with the public. According to their press release, the legendary star was in excellent physical health until she contracted a serious case of pneumonia. Day stayed humble until the very end, asking for no funeral or memorial service and no grave marker.

This Hollywood legend started her singing career during her teen years and found success as an actress during ‘50s and ‘60s. She starred in numerous box office hits and delivered several chart-topping songs, including her signature track Que Sera, Sera.

“During her three decades of work in film, Day starred in nearly every genre, not just as a singer/dancer but as an actress with superb comic timing, a natural talent for interpreting a role and a gift for evoking emotion,” reads an official statement by Doris Day Animal Foundation.

Day left a lasting legacy behind, and many Hollywood veterans mourned her death and sent condolences to her family after the news of her passing made the headlines.
