“Homeland” is Coming to an End

Claire Danes in "Homeland"

Sad news, Homeland fans — the forthcoming season will be the show’s last.

The series, based on the Israeli series Prisoners of War, has been around since 2011 and has claimed 8 Emmys — including Outstanding Drama Series and 2 Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series trophies for Claire Danes.

CEO and President of Showtime, David Nevins, confirmed at the Television Critics Association that Homeland’s 8th season will be its last, but emphasized that this was not a cancellation.

“[Showrunner] Alex Gansa will be bringing his show to its proper conclusion,” said Nevins. “I can’t say how much it has meant to the acceleration of our brand and for me personally: It was the first series I greenlit.”

The decision appeared to be a joint one between Gansa and Claire.

There has been no announcement regarding just when fans will get to say their goodbyes, but for now, we know that the final mission will take place in 2019.
