Live-action remakes of animated classics are a hot commodity in Hollywood right now, and How To Train Your Dragon is the next one in line. Casting for Universal’s adaptation is currently underway, and Mason Thames and Nico Parker have already hopped on board.

Mason Thames is the breakout star of Universal’s The Black Phone led by Ethan Hawke, and he landed several major roles after its success.  He’s set to star in teen comedy Incoming and adventure flick Boys of Summer before taking the role of Hiccup in the new version of How To Train Your Dragon.

Thames will be joined by another relative newcomer in Hollywood in the role of Astrid. Nico Parker’s rise to prominence started with her role in Tim Burton’s Dumbo, and she went on to appear alongside Hugh Jackman in Reminiscence, in addition to guest starring on the hit HBO show The Last of Us.

How To Train Your Dragon franchise grossed over $1.6 billion across three films, and introduced audiences to the unbreakable bond between young Viking Hiccup and a fearsome Night Fury dragon Toothless. The new version of this beloved tale will be directed by Dean DeBlois, and it’s expected to hit the theatres on March 14, 2025.
