Hulu’s Period Drama “Harlots” is Coming Back for Season 3

Lesley Manville in "Harlots"

Hulu has a tendency to reward their quality shows, no matter how underrated, and they proved it once again by bringing back Harlots for another ride. The sassy period drama has just been renewed for Season 3.

Harlots tells the tale of brothel owner Margaret Wells, who struggles to raise her daughters in London during the 18th century. Two-time Oscar nominee Samantha Morton plays the lead, but this period drama stars several actresses who are impressive in their own right. Phantom Thread’s Lesley Manville and Downton Abbey’s Jessica Brown Findlay are also a part of the main cast. The Lord of the Rings actress Liv Tyler joined them during Season 2.

This TV show was created by Moira Buffini and Alison Newman, and it’s been around since 2017. One of the things that makes it special is a female-driven creative team, but actress Samantha Morton claims this was a completely spontaneous move.

Harlots was ahead of the game with the whole general drive of more women directors, producers and actors. We didn’t set out to make a show with only women directors, producers and predominantly cast. It was how it developed and it works brilliantly,” explained Morton, who described the series as brave and bold.
