Jennifer Lawrence in "The Hunger Games"

Fans of the Hunger Games franchise were head over heels after learning that Lionsgate is plotting its prequel, and there’s more good news coming their way. This project is officially moving forward with Francis Lawrence, who directed three of the Hunger Games movies.

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes will follow the early days of Coriolanus Snow, who used to be a handsome and charming young man before becoming the tyrannical President of Panem that we know him as.

After the once-mighty house of Snow has fallen on hard times, the eighteen-year-old Coriolanus decides the restore their good name by becoming a mentor to a female tribute from the impoverished District 12 at the tenth annual Hunger Games.

The prequel will be based on the novel by Suzanne Collins, scheduled to be released on May 19th. She previously expressed her delight to reunite with Lionsgate, because they “treated the source material with great respect, honoring the thematic and narrative elements of the story, and assembling an incredible team both in front of and behind the camera.”
