Idris Elba gave us one of his most iconic roles in BBC’s crime drama Luther and we’ll soon see him play the titular detective again. After years in the making, the standalone movie Luther: The Fallen Sun is just around the corner and Netflix unveiled the first trailer for this highly-anticipated project.

According to the film’s official synopsis, a gruesome serial killer is terrorizing London while disgraced detective John Luther sits behind bars. Haunted by his failure to capture the cyber psychopath, Luther decides to break out of prison to finish the job by any means necessary.

Andy Serkis takes on the role of the tech mogul serial killer David Robey, while the rest of the supporting cast includes Cynthia Erivo, Jess Liaudin, Lauryn Ajufo, and Dermot Crowley, returning as Martin Schenk.

Luther: The Fallen Sun was written by Neil Cross, who created the original series for BBC. Luther ran for five seasons, featuring a total of 20 episodes, and won Elba several prestigious awards for his performance, including a Critics’ Choice Television Award, Golden Globe Award, and SAG Award.

Luther: The Fallen Sun will have a limited theatrical release in select cinemas on February 24, before starting to stream on Netflix on March 10.
