Idris Elba to Star in Film Adaptation Of “Ghetto Cowboy”

Idris Elba will star and produce Ghetto Cowboy. 

The indie film will be adapted from the 2011 novel of the same name by Greg Neri. 

The film follows 15-year-old Cole who is forced to live with his estranged father Harp (Elba) in North Philadelphia, where despite the surrounding poverty and violence, he discovers the redemptive world of urban horseback riding.

The film will mark Ricky Staub directorial debut. Staud also penned the script together with Dan Wasler. Elba will produce under his Green Door Pictures banner, along with Jeff Waxman, Jen Madeloff, Sam Mercer, Tegan Jones and Walser.

Elba, who was recently seen on the big screen in Disney — Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War and has recently announced as the villain in Fast and Furious spinoff titled Hobbs and Shaw, starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham.
