Universal Pictures shared the release date for Idris Elba-starred action thriller Beast. According to the studio’s announcement, the movie is set to hit theaters on August 19, 2022.

Beast is directed by Baltasar Kormakur (Everest, A Drift) and is described as a survival flick. It tells the story of a widowed father, Dr. Nate Samuels (Elba), who takes his two teenage daughters on a trip to South Africa. But this bonding journey quickly turns into a fight for dear life when the family starts being hunted by a rogue lion.

Ryan Engle (Rampage) penned the script based on the idea of Jaime Primak-Sullivan, who also serves as a producer on the project. Further details about the cast and the production start date remain under wraps.

Idris Elba has several other big projects coming in the future besides Beast. He is starring as Robert DuBois / Bloodsport in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad while also playing a major role in the upcoming western The Harder They Fall. Both of these movies will be released in 2021.

Elba also signed on to play the lead in George Miller’s epic fantasy Three Thousand Years of Longing. The project has Academy Award-winner Tilda Swinton starring in one of the main roles as well.
