The Super Mario Bros. Movie is one of the biggest box office hits in the theatres right now and its soundtrack is making waves on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The hit ballad song “Peaches” performed by Jack Black debuted at no. 83, becoming his first solo entry on the chart.

Jack Black voices Bowser in the new Super Mario film, and this song serves as his ode to Princess Peach. The Cole Bennett-directed music video helped it go viral, netting 5.8 million U.S. streams and 6,000 downloads during its first week on the chart.

In an interview with IGN, Black revealed that the idea for this song only came halfway through the recording process, and he was stoked to record it because it showed Bowser’s new sensitive side.

“They were like, ‘How would you feel about Bowser singing a song?’ So I said, ‘Let me hear what you got.’ They sent over this little song, and I just couldn’t deny that it was funny. I was like, ‘I get it, I see why you want Bowser to do this.’ Tickling the ivories and singing a love song to Peaches, it’s undeniable,” he told IGN.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie hit the theaters, on April 5, and it’s been breaking box office records ever since, getting closer to crossing a $700 million mark in just two weeks.
