Happy Mondays frontman Shaun Ryder is getting his own biopic, and he’s set to be played by one of Hollywood’s most promising young actors. Jack O’Connell is attached to portray him in the upcoming movie Twisting My Melon.

According to its official logline, this cautionary rock fable will follow Ryder’s story from his childhood days, when he dreamed about having a rock band like his father, to finding world-wide fame during the ’90s with Happy Mondays.

Production should kick off in January next year, and the film is also set to star Jason Isaacs as Ryder’s working-class guitar hero dad, Maxine Peake as his long-suffering mum and Holliday Grainger as his girlfriend.

Like many young British actors of his generation, Jack O’Connell got his big break after starring in hit teen series Skins. He started rising through the ranks shortly after ending his run on this show and went on to star in Angelina Jolie’s movie Unbroken and critically acclaimed series Godless. He can soon be seen in indie dramas Seberg and Jungleland.
