Acclaimed French filmmaker Thomas Bidegain is currently plotting his next English-language project, and he’s eying two Hollywood heavyweights for lead roles. Jake Gyllenhaal and Vanessa Kirby are set to join forces in his survival thriller Suddenly.

Bidegain is best known for writing the scripts for A Prophet and Rust and Bone, and Suddenly will stand out in his filmography as a rare directorial effort. He’ll also be in charge of writing the script for this project, based on Isabelle Autissier’s French-language novel Soudain Seuls.

According to Deadline, Suddenly “follows a couple who become stranded on an island in the South Atlantic and must fight for survival when their dream journey becomes a nightmare.” It will mark the second collaboration between Gyllenhaal and Kirby, who previously starred together in the 2015 adventure film Everest.

Gyllenhaal most recently starred in Marvel’s Spider-Man: Far From Home, and we’ll soon get to see him in the crime thriller The Guilty. Kirby is fresh off her Oscar-nominated role in Pieces of a Woman, and she’s set to reprise her role as the White Widow in the next two Mission: Impossible movies.
