We’ve seen Jake Gyllenhaal give superhero films a shot with the villain role in Spider-Man: Far From Home, and he’s ready to give this genre another go. The Oscar-nominated actor is set to play the lead role in Sam Hargrave’s superhero pic Prophet.

This promising project will center on John Prophet, a man who gains superhuman strength after being subjected to scientific experiments during WWII. Marc Guggenheim, whose previous credits include DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and Arrow, will be in charge of penning the script for this comic book adaptation.

Studio 8 CEO Jeff Robinov said they’ve been planning to work with Gyllenhaal, and that they’re excited to finally get a chance to collaborate on this unique, action-packed genre film. “I’m looking forward to seeing what they envision for bringing this story to life—a story we’re sure will stand out in the comic book world as a powerful, emotionally charged, and visually distinctive film,” he stated.

Gyllenhaal most recently appeared in the Netflix thriller The Guilty, and he’s currently attached to a series of other projects, including Michael Bay’s next film Ambulance.
