The MCU’s first venture into space, Guardians of the Galaxy, was released to theaters 6 years ago on August 1, 2014, and became an unexpected hit. Now, director James Gunn is celebrating its anniversary by releasing some behind the scenes photos showing him and the movie’s stars.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 opened 6 years ago today. Wow,” wrote the director and posted four pictures of himself posing with different cast members such as Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, and Sean Gunn as well as with other crew members on the set. All participants seem to have a good time.

Guardians of the Galaxy was a huge success upon its release and garnered a sequel in 2017. The Guardians have also met and worked with other members of the MCU in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Now, a third movie of the franchise is in the works. Disney hired Gunn to write and direct the prequel but later fired him from the project due to the resurfacing of old offensive tweets he had made. Disney had since rehired him.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is yet to have a fixed released date but production is set to begin in February 2021.
