It has been quite an eventful week for Jane the Virgin fans.

Earlier this week, the CW, announced that the series will return for its fifth and final season in 2019. And now the network confirms that a Jane spin-off is officially in the works.

The news that a spin-off is currently in development were announced Tuesday. While an official confirmation was handed out, the network is keeping all other details under wraps.

Very little was revealed about the gestating project, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, the untitled project will follow a storyline from the flagship series. The spin-off will, however, feature an all-new cast. Jane the Virgin lead Valentina Garza will be part of the new series, as its writer. She is also listed as an executive producer, alongside Jennie Snyder Urman, Ben Silverman, Joanna Klein, and Emily Gipson.

If the series will indeed go to series, the spin-off will not debut as a backdoor pilot on Jane’s final season. Season five has a lot to unpack as the season four finale saw the return of Jane’s presumed-dead husband, Michael (Brett Dier). Urman told Entertainment Weekly, “The return of this character felt right thematically in terms of where we wanted to go, in terms of a return to this central love triangle that was so important to the show for so long,” he said. “And now everybody is in really different places.”
