Jared Harris Joins Spider-Man Spinoff “Morbius”

Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man spinoff adds to its cast. 

Jared Harris has been cast in Morbius, one of the serval projects currently in development based on characters from the Spider-Man comics. 

The films center on the infamous biochemist, Dr. Michael Morbius, created by writer Roy Thomas and artist Gil Kane. Dr. Morbius first debuted in the 1971’s The Amazing Spider-Man #101 issue. In the comics, he is a Nobel Prize-winning biochemist who is transformed into a vampire while attempting to cure a rare blood disease. After treating himself with serum derived from bats, he turns into an anti-hero, which includes a taste for human blood. 

Harris, whose role is being kept under wraps, will star opposite Jared Leto, who plays the titular villain. 

Set to direct is Daniel Espinosa from a script by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless. Avi Arad, Matt Tolmachm and Lucas Foster are producing. 

Harris’ credits are many, including television’s Mad Men and The Crown, as well as the features The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.
