Which skills should a rapper have? Well, according to Jay-Z, great voice and good flow are bound to be at the top of the list. The 48-year-old rapper recently made an appearance on David Letterman’s My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, and discussed what makes a good rapper.
“You can have a great voice, and you can just almost say anything,” said Jay-Z to Letterman. “I think Snoop Dogg has a great voice, like he can say ‘One-two-three into the four,’ I was like ‘Oh my god.’ It just sounds good, right?”
He then proceeded to praise Eminem for “amazing cadence and syncopation”, while rapping few lines in the style of Slim Shady.
“You almost become a percussion inside the music,” said Jay-Z of Eminem’s rapping skills. “So there are multiple ways to be really good. Some people just have it all.”
