Jenna Ortega will be playing the lead in Netflix’s Wednesday Addams live-actions series.

Wednesday is a supernatural mystery that follows Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy. During that time she tries to master her emerging psychic powers, stop a monstrous killing spree that’s threatening the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that her parents faced 25 years prior while dealing with relationships at Nevermore.

Wednesday has been given an eight-episode order. The show was created by Al Gough and Miles Millar, and they’ll serve as showrunners and executive producers. Tim Burton is going to direct and executive produce.

Ortega’s TV roles include You, Richie Rich, Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous, Elena of Avalor, and Jane the Virgin. Her film credits include Insidious: Chapter 2, The Fallout, and The Babysitter: Killer Queen. Her next role is in the latest film in the Scream franchise.

Wednesday has been played on screen many times, originating with Lisa Loring starring as the character in the 1960s Addams Family series. Christina Ricci played the character in two Addams Family films in the 1990s. Chloë Grace Moretz voices the character in the animated films.
