Biopics of music icons are all the rage these days, and one of the most iconic modern Latin artists will soon be getting her own. ViX is developing a biopic about the life and legacy of Jenni Rivera, with Annie Gonzalez in the lead role.

The upcoming biopic will be directed by Gigi Saul Guerrero, and it will trace her journey from her humble beginnings in California to her meteoric rise in the music industry, and her final days before her tragic death in a plane crash, that sent shock waves around the world in 2012.

Rivera will be portrayed by the Gentefied star Annie Gonzalez, who said she’s “beyond honored to portray the essence of this phenomenal survivor”, adding she’s looking forward to sharing her “messages of feminism, civil rights, and nonconformity” with the world.

“With the support of the Rivera family, I cannot wait to help tell the beautiful story and the impactful legacy of what Jenni means to me personally and what it will mean to women and Latinas everywhere,” said Gonzalez in a statement.

The filming of this project is currently underway in Bogota, Colombia, and will be completed in Los Angeles. The film will premiere exclusively via ViX, after hitting select movie theaters in the United States and Mexico later this year.
