We may be getting a sequel to Dirty Dancing.

Jennifer Grey, the original star of Dirty Dancing, is working on an untitled dance movie with Lionsgate where she will star and executive produce.

The project is set in the 1990s and the studio hasn’t commented if Grey’s Frances “Baby” Houseman will be the focus of the film. The original film took place in 1963 at a Catskills resort and it starred Patrick Swayze as Grey’s dance instructor and love interest with Jerry Orbach and Kelly Bishop as her parents.

Dirty Dancing was released in 1987 by Vestron and it made $217 million at box offices worldwide and sold more than one million home video units. “(I’ve Had) the Time of My Life” won an Academy Award for best original song.

In 2004, Lionsgate released the prequel Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights.

Megamix’s Jonathan Levine and Gillian Bohrer are shepherding the project from a screenplay by Mikki Daughtry and Tobias Iaconis (Five Feet Apart, The Curse of La LLorona).

Grey was on Season 11 of Dancing With the Stars and she took home the Mirrorball trophy. From 2014 to 2017 she starred in Amazon’s Red Oaks.
