Jennifer Hudson Channels Aretha Franklin in New “Respect” Trailer

Jennifer Hudson in "Respect"

Jennifer Hudson already has one Oscar under her belt, and it seems like she could be on her way to winning another. The new trailer for the upcoming musical biopic Respect is here, and she’s the most perfect Aretha Franklin we could possibly ask for.

The new trailer debuted during the virtual BET Awards. It shows Hudson taking on the role of the Queen of Soul, hitting all the right notes, and delivering a couple of memorable lines—including “You have to disturb the peace when you can’t get no peace.”

Aretha Franklin hand-picked Jennifer Hudson to play her before passing away in 2018. The Oscar-winning actress told Sunday Today that her only goal is to honor the famous singer, and that’s she’s hoping she’ll make her proud and do her justice.

After several delays, Respect is expected to premiere on December 25th. It will also star Forest Whitaker, Marlon Wayans, Audra McDonald, Queen Latifah, and Mary J. Blige
