Adaptations of the beloved Broadway musicals are all the rage these days, and Kiss of the Spider Woman is the latest to get the Hollywood treatment. Jennifer Lopez will play the lead role in Bill Condon’s adaptation of the hit Broadway musical.

Just like its musical version, this film will draw inspiration from Manuel Puig’s novel El Beso de la Mujer Araña. The novel centered on Luis Alberto Molina, who spends his days as a prisoner in Argentina fantasizing about a vampy diva Aurora, who plays a sinister spider woman and kills her victims with a kiss.

Chita Rivera originated this role on Broadway, and Jennifer Lopez will take over in the big-screen adaptation of the popular musical. She most recently appeared in the Netflix action thriller Mother, and we’ll soon get to see her in sci-fi thriller Atlas and sports biopic Unstoppable.

Kiss of the Spider Woman is in safe hands, with Bill Condon coming on board as both a writer and a director. His track record is pretty solid and includes successful musicals Dreamgirls and Beauty and the Beast. Barry Josephson, Tom Kirdahy, Greg Yolen, and Matt Geller are producing the film, while Lopez will be credited as one of the executive producers.
