American actress Kelly Preston, best known for her roles in films Twins and Jerry Maguire, passed away at age 57.

Preston’s husband of almost three decades, John Travolta, revealed that she spent the last two years battling breast cancer. This was confirmed by the official statement that her family representative shared with People.

“She was a bright, beautiful, and loving soul who cared deeply about others and who brought life to everything she touched. Her family asks for your understanding of their need for privacy at this time,” reads the statement.

Preston’s sudden passing came as a surprise to many since she never shared her diagnoses with the world. Travolta praised her for fighting “a courageous fight with the love and support of so many,” and said he’ll take some time off to mourn her with their children.

Several Hollywood superstars sent thoughts and prayers Travolta’s way. Arnold Schwarzenegger called Preston an extraordinary actress with a big heart, while Russell Crowe described her as a “lovely person” and sent love to her family.
