Jerry Seinfeld and Netflix are bringing iconic breakfast treat Pop-Tarts to the big screen. The movie will be titled Unfrosted and has Seinfeld serving as a lead, writer, director, and producer.

The feature will tell the story behind the creation of Pop-Tarts and is inspired by one of Seinfeld’s stand-up jokes. Production is expected to kick off in the spring of 2022.

Seinfeld confirmed the project in a recent chat with Deadline, saying he came up with the idea for Unfrosted while being forced to stay inside during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Stuck at home watching endless sad faces on TV, I thought this would be a good time to make something based on pure silliness,” he explained. “So we took my Pop-Tart stand-up bit from my last Netflix special and exploded it into a giant, crazy comedy movie.”

Over the course of his career, Seinfeld hasn’t been working on the big screen all that much. Aside from occasional cameos, his only notable cinematic project is a voice role in 2007’s animated flick Bee Movie.

Unfrosted will be a continuation of the fruitful relationship Jerry Seinfeld and Netflix developed in recent years. Seinfeld previously created the interview series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee for Netflix while also doing two comedy specials—Jerry Before Seinfeld and 23 Hours to Kill—for the streamer. His iconic sitcom Seinfeld will also arrive on the platform by the end of the year.
