With two Oscars and three Emmy Awards under her belt, Jessica Lange is one of the most acclaimed actresses of her generation, but she’s thinking about turning her back to Hollywood. She discussed the possibility of retirement in a recent interview and explained why she’s thinking about “phasing out of filmmaking.”

Lange recently set down for an in-depth interview with The Telegraph and revealed she’s considering retirement from acting because wonderful stories with great characters are hard to find these days.

“Creativity is secondary now to corporate profits. The emphasis becomes not on the art or the artist or the storytelling. It becomes about satisfying your stockholders. It diminishes the artist and the art of filmmaking,” she explained.

Lange also said she “has no desire to see 90%” of movies in the theatres, adding she’s not interested in the big comic-book franchise films because she believes that they’ve sacrificed art for the sake of profit.

Lange won two Oscars for her roles in Tootsie and Blue Sky, and her career experienced somewhat of a renaissance during the 2010s thanks to her award-winning roles in several seasons of American Horror Story. She reunited with Ryan Murphy for several more projects, including Feud: Bette and Joan and The Politician, and is next set to star in his Marlene Dietrich biopic.
