Alex Garland gave us two mind-bending sci-fi hits with Ex Machina and Annihilation, and he’s got another one on the way. He’s currently in the process of developing his next feature film, with Jessie Buckley set to take on the lead role.

Buckley’s casting is yet to be officially confirmed, and she’s expected to be joined by Rory Kinnear.

According to Deadline, this project will center on a young woman who goes on a solo vacation to the English countryside after the death of her ex-husband.

Garland will join forces with A24, the same studio that gave him his big break with Ex Machina. The filmmaker’s sophomore film, Annihilation, came out in 2018. He also gave TV a try last year with the futuristic mystery mini-series Devs.

Jessie Buckley had a pretty amazing 2020, as well, and established herself as one of Hollywood’s biggest rising stars. She delivered a critically acclaimed performance in Charlie Kaufman’s Netflix original I’m Thinking of Ending Things and was singled out as a standout in the new season of Fargo.
