Jodie Foster hasn’t taken a major TV role since her child star years, but that’s about to change. The Oscar-winning actress will play one of the lead roles in Season 4 of the HBO anthology series True Detective, in addition to serving as one of the executive producers.

According to an official synopsis shared by Deadline, Season 4 will focus on detectives Liz Danvers and Evangeline Navarro, as they try to solve the case of six missing men who vanish without a trace while operating the Tsalal Arctic Research Station in Ennis, Alaska.

While trying to unravel this mystery, the two detectives will have to confront the darkness they carry in themselves and dig into the haunting truths that lie buried under the eternal ice. Foster will take on the role of Liz Danvers, while the casting of Evangeline Navarro is yet to be announced.

Issa López will serve as a writer and director of the new season, being developed under the working title True Detective: Night Country. The Oscar-winning filmmaker Barry Jenkins will serve as one of the executive producers alongside Foster.

This marks Foster’s first major TV appearance in decades. She hasn’t played any major TV roles since her child star years in the ’70s when she appeared on shows including Gunsmoke, My Three Sons, and Paper Moon.
