Jodie Whittaker is not leaving the TARDIS yet.

The 36-year-old actress is sticking around for the British science fiction series for at least another season. Whittaker earned widespread praise for her work on Doctor Who, especially her portrayal of theĀ first female Doctor in the show’s 55-year history.

The Hollywood Reporter confirms that the first female Time Lord will return for the upcoming 12th season. Whittaker told the outlet exclusively, ā€œI really canā€™t wait to step back in and get to work again. Itā€™s such an incredible role. It’s been an extraordinary journey so far and I’m not quite ready to hand it over yet.ā€

While BBC is keeping under wraps who will play the Doctor in the upcoming season, it is largely presumed that Whittaker, who took on the role after Peter Capaldiā€™s exit, will stay on as the Doctor from Gallifrey.

According to the outlet, the opening episode of season 11 was the biggest season launch for the show with 10.9 million viewers in the UK.

The Season 11 finale of Doctor Who airs this Sunday. Season 12 is expected to start shooting in early 2019.Ā
