The cult British TV series Doctor Who has officially welcomed Jodie Whittaker as the Thirteenth Doctor. In a Doctor Who Christmas Special that aired on BBC, Whittaker replaced Peter Capaldi and became the first female Doctor in the series’ history. In case you missed the regeneration episode titled Twice Upon a Time, BBC was kind enough to share the scene where the Thirteenth Doctor makes her debut. Check it out below.

Twice Upon a Time also featured David Bradley portraying the First Doctor, a role he has taken on various times before. The episode received positive reviews, with most of the critics praising its emotional impact. There will also be a theatrical release of the episode in multiple countries, featuring the behind-the-scenes and other bonus content.

The Doctor Who’s next series will debut at some point in late 2018, but we already know that we will get a fresh take on Doctor’s adventures. It’s not only Peter Capaldi, who has been with the show since 2014, who is making the exit, but also the long-time showrunner Steven Moffat. The latter one will be replaced by Chris Chibnall, known for his work on the TV show Broadchurch. Chibnall already made a big contribution to the series by casting Whittaker as the new doctor.

“After months of lists, conversations, auditions, recalls, and a lot of secret-keeping, we’re excited to welcome Jodie Whittaker as the Thirteenth Doctor. I always knew I wanted the Thirteenth Doctor to be a woman and we’re thrilled to have secured our number one choice. Her audition for The Doctor simply blew us all away,” – said Chibnall after Whittaker’s casting was officially announced. “Jodie is an in-demand, funny, inspiring, super-smart force of nature and will bring loads of wit, strength and warmth to the role. The Thirteenth Doctor is on her way.”
