Joel Kinnaman is one of the actors returning to the upcoming Suicide Squad sequel, and he’s promising this movie will be much lighter and funnier than the original.

Kinnaman took on the role of Suicide Squad leader Rick Flag, and he’s reprising the role in the new movie. He recently discussed this project with Variety and praised the new director, James Gunn, for completely changing the tone of this franchise.

“He’s an incredible guy. He’s written a fantastic script. It’s so funny… I feel like I’m shooting my first comedy. There are a lot of really funny people there. It’s like a learning experience. I’m around a lot of incredibly funny people,” said Altered Carbon actor.

James Gunn signed on to direct the Suicide Squad sequel earlier this year and said he’ll draw inspiration from ‘80s comic and focus on new characters instead of continuing the story from the original 2016 film.

Margot Robbie, Viola Davis, and Jai Courtney are some of the cast members returning to their respective roles, but the cast will also include Idris Elba, John Cena, Storm Reid, Nathan Fillion, and Pete Davidson.
