Another celebrity couple has decided to call it quits. John Cena and Nikki Bella have decided to end their relationship after six years together. The two professional wrestling superstars started dating in 2012.
Nikki Bella shared a statement on her Instagram profile confirming the news about the split with Cena.
“After much contemplation and six years of being together, Nikki Bella and John Cena announced today their decision to separate as a couple. While this decision was a difficult one, we continue to have a great deal of love and respect for one another. We ask that you respect our privacy during this time in our lives,” read the statement.
John Cena, on the other hand, shared a quote from American poet Walt Whitman, “We were together. I forgot the rest.”
John Cena and Nikki Bella met through World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and have been friends for years. After Cena divorced his first wife Elizabeth Huberdeau in 2012, he asked Bella out and the two started dating. Their relationship was documented on the reality TV series Total Divas and Total Bellas. The two eventually got engaged in April 2017, when Cena proposed to Bella during WrestleMania 33.
John Cena recently talked with Us Weekly about the struggles in his relationship with Nikki.
“Relationships are hard. Don’t ever think that love is easy. Love is beautiful, but we’ve had to come to the realization after being together for five years that love is not easy,” said Cena. “We work every day on us. We have our problems just like everybody else. Some of our problems are very public, some of them aren’t. But we work every day on us. Anytime I get upset, I always just realize that I can’t live without her and I love her and that’s why I cave in on a lot of stuff.”
