In case you missed it, Alec Baldwin was set to star in Joker for a hot minute. The Mission: Impossible — Fallout star was due to portray the role of Batman’s father, Thomas Wayne, in the standalone film based on The Joker’s origins.

The death of Dr. Wayne and his wife Martha is what inspires young Bruce Wayne to become the vigilante caped crusader.

In August, The Hollywood Reporter announced that Alec would be taking on the role, before dropping out just 2 days later.

“I have NOT been hired to play a role in Todd Phillips’ JOKER… That is not happening. Not. Happening,” he wrote on Twitter, whilst also telling USA Today, “I’m sure there are 25 guys who can play that part.”

And it now appears as though director Todd Phillips has found one of the 25…

The filmmaker has cast Person of Interest actor Brett Cullen as Thomas Wayne.

Brett has previously stepped into the Batman Universe, having portrayed a congressman in 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises.
