“Joker”: New Image Released and Rating’s Confirmed

Joaquin Phoenix in "Joker"

Director Todd Phillips released a new image of Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker.

The new Joker film’s director took to Instagram and shared an image of Phoenix looking into a mirror applying his Joker makeup. The pic captioned, “Finishing touches” was taken by Niko Tavernise, who Phillips says is “truly one of the best still photographers working in movies; we were so lucky to have him on set.”

Phillips also confirmed the film’s rating to a fan who commented on the image.

“It will be Rated R. I’ve been asked this a lot. Just assumed people knew. Sorry,” he replied.

While Phillips seems certain that the film will be R-rated, in fact it’s the MPAA that decides ratings in America, and the MPAA has yet to give the pic an official rating.

Phillips’ Joker is set in 1981 and will take DC Comics fans back to the villain’s origin story. The film follows stand-up comedian named Arthur Fleck, whose failure drive him to insanity and put him on a path to becoming the infamous psychopathic killer.

Joker premieres October 4.
