The long-awaited trailer for the Joker stand-alone movie is finally here and the director Todd Phillips announced it in the most teasing way he could find. The full trailer was only released after the director posted a series of short clips on his Instagram account, preparing his followers for the film’s release.

And boy, how the trailer delivers. Joaquin Pheonix’s performance as the failed comedian Arthur Fleck who turns into the arch-villain Joker has been praised before by people who got to see it and the trailer proves them right. It also shows the physical transformation the actor went through as it is said he lost tens of pounds for the part.

The trailer follows the way that Fleck goes through, his everyday hardships and emotional turmoils and it seems that is going to be the focus of the film that will examine the road to villainy. The trailer also shows Sophie Dumond, played by Zazie Beets, Fleck’s neighbor who becomes his love interest.

The Joker will be released to theaters on October 4, 2019.
