With the roles in Creed III and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Jonathan Majors established himself as one of the biggest stars of 2023—and there’s more where that came from! The Emmy-nominated actor landed his next big role in Amazon’s Da Understudy.

Developed in collaboration between Westbrook Studios and Amazon Studios, this ambitious project tells the story of life imitating art when the understudy of a Broadway production finds a role he’s willing to kill for.

The project is based on the original story by Tyler Cole, who co-wrote the script with Tom Hanada and Zach Strauss. Spike Lee is in very early talks to direct the film, which would mark his second collaboration with Majors following Da 5 Bloods.

In addition to playing the lead role, Majors will produce the project under his Tall Street Productions umbrella. Will Smith, Jon Mone, and Mike Soccio are also producing, while Tyler Cole and Spike Lee serve as executive producers.

2023 is turning out to be a pretty amazing year for Majors who already has two smash hits under his belt with Creed III and Quantumania. We’ll also get to see him in the Sundance hit Magazine Dreams later this year, and he’s set to return as Kang the Conqueror in future MCU films.
