Disney film production executive Sean Bailey on Friday confirmed reports that Jonny Depp won’t be playing Jack Sparrow again in the new “Pirates of the Caribbean” reboot.

“We want to bring in new energy and vitality,” the executive said.

Details about the new movie are not yet out but there are reports the hero in the film will be a woman called “Redd.” The character already appears in rides at the Disneyland theme parks but there had been no plans to turn her into a film hero until recently.

Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick will be in recharge of the reboot and Bailey is confident they will do a good job.

“I love the (Pirates) movies, but part of the reason Paul and Rhett are so interesting is that we want to give it a kick in the pants. And that’s what I’ve tasked them with.”

Jonny Depp has had a great run starring in Pirates of the Caribbean. The least grossing movie in the sequels was Dead Men Tell No Tales which was released in 2017 and grossed $600 million. Dead Man’s Chest, which was released in 2006, was the most successful with gross earnings in excess of $1.1 billion.
